Spiny Oyster Spiny Oyster, also known as Spondylus Brodnip Princeps or Thorny Oyster dates all the way back to 1976 when it first started being used in Native American jewelry designs. Spondylus is a Latin term for "spines on back". Brodnip is the name of the scientist who traveled with Cortez all throughout his exploration. It is found in the Sea of Cortez, off the coast of Baja California, Mexico.
